
Letters to My Parents Student Writing Contest
Be ready to be touched by our high school finalists’ heartfelt Letters to My Parents at a presentation and awards ceremony. The goal is to encourage family communication.
The Filipino Association of University Women (FAUW) preserves and shares Filipino traditions, history, and the arts in Hawa’i and beyond. Established in 1987, the non-profit organization has provided leadership in promoting greater awareness of and appreciation for Filipino culture and values to encourage cross-cultural understanding.
FAUW’s programs include publications featuring Filipino writers from many parts of the world; education initiatives focusing on youth; annual parol-making activities; and support for student writing, film festivals, art tours and exhibits, literacy projects, and cultural displays.
FAUW has partnered with organizations such as the Honolulu Museum of Arts, the Children’s Discovery Center, the Filipino Community Center, the University of Hawai‘i Center for Philippine Studies, the Philippine Consulate General of Hawai‘i; the Friends of the Iolani Palace, and Reiyukai Hawai‘i.

60 authors who joined our writing workshops on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island created intriguing stories on coming to Hawaii, growing up Filipino island style, and adapting and coping to life’s challenges. Thanks to the support from the Hawaii Council for the Humanities and our wonderful team of teachers and members!
